There are basically 2 types of label printers available based on the way they work- Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer Label Printers. The choice depends largely on your business applications.

If you are looking to print labels for perishable goods that have a short shelve life, direct thermal printers are the ideal choice. Direct thermal technology makes use of heat sensitive paper and ingrains the image directly into the label by using heat transfer techniques. The other option is thermal transfer printing where an image is transferred on to the label using an ink ribbon.  The heat melts the ink on the ribbon which is used to create the desired image.

This type of printing uses paper and synthetic label materials. A thermal transfer label printer can offer you labels that are heat, oil, water and chemical resistant.
